As a proud military veteran, I am very aware of challenges that affect thousands of veterans throughout life. Their experiences are not left on the battle field and often follow them through life. The Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) estimate that 17 military veterans commit suicide every day. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a real thing. It involves people experiencing a traumatic event and having a difficult time dealing with the experience. Often, it becomes a weight that affects daily life & social relationships. Additionally, it’s not isolated to veterans and involves the entire community.
For this reason, I have worked with our veteran organizations and local community to provide awareness for mental health. Our Kickoff event shares important resources that are available within our region to help our veterans and community to better understand and hopefully manage their mental health. An important point is to please remember that you are not alone, and services are available.
